Arthur was born on 1st April 1892 at 61 Arvon Terrace, Carnarvon.

 

At the age of 15 he emigrated to Canada, arriving at the Port of Montreal on board the vessel Virginian on the 31st May 1907.  He had sailed from Liverpool in a group of boys under the care of a Mr. Brewster - heading to Gibbs Home for Farm School Boys in Sherbrooked, Quebec.  It is known that he worked as a mechanic.

 

He married Gertrude Mary Theresa Gwilliam (daughter of William Gwilliam and Christine Grogan) in St. Agnes' Parish, Montreal, on 28th October 1914.  This was subsequent to the reading of the banns and the approval of the Archbishop of Montreal.  The priest officiating was Fr. James C. Brophy and witnesses were Robert Martin Sullivan, brother of the groom, and Charlotte Jacotel.

 

Arthur and Gertrude had the following children:

 

John Arthur Sullivan - born on 16 May 1915 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada (St. Michael the Archangel Parish).  John was baptised on 30th May 1915 by Fr. Luke Callaghan; sponsors: Ernest Elliot White and his wife Catherine Sullivan White.

 

Lillian Gertrude Sullivan - born on 28 September 1916 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada (St. Michael the Archangel Parish).  She was baptised on the 8th October 1816 by Fr. Michael T. O'Brian; sponsors were Charlotte Jacotel and Fr. O'Brien.

 

Marjorie Theresa Sullivan  - born on 21 June 1918 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada (St. Michael the Archangel Parish).  She was baptised on the 26th June 1918; sponsors were Peter J. Welch and May O'Reilly.

 

Alice Francis Sullivan - born on 22 September 1920 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Alice married Lucien Robert Berlinguette on 26th June, 1945 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Their marriage notice in The Ottawa journal newspaper was as follows:

BERLINGUETTE-SULLIVAN. On June 26 1945 at the R.C.A.F. chapel, Edmonton, Alta, Alice Frances Sullivan, daughter of Mrs. Arthur Sullivan and the late Mr. Sullivan of Montreal to Lucien Robert Berlinguette, son of Mrs. Edgar Berlinguette and the late Mr. Berlinguette of Ottawa.


 

 

 

Arthur died on 1st December 1941 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
